CITY GUIDE: BRANSON GOLF
Branson Information Page3
Branson Creek
Designed by architect Tom Fazio, Branson Creek is quickly becoming the premiere
golf destination in the Midwest as it calls attention to the natural beauty
of the Ozark Mountains. GOLF Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek agree, naming
Branson Creek one of the Top 10 New Courses in 2000, and the #1 Public Course
in Missouri in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Golf Digest also ranked Branson
Creek #66 on its list of the Top 100 Public Courses in America. Directions:Branson
Creek Golf Club is located off Highway 65 at Branson Creek Drive, 4.2 miles
south of Highway 76.
Holiday Hills
Originally built in 1938, this course was rebuilt from tee to green and reopened in 1997. The new course is "user friendly" with flat to rolling terrain, featuring a variety of holes to challenge the low and high handicapper alike. The fairways are wide and open. The greens are large with undulations. The course offers four tee boxes on each hole to accommodate every level of golfer. This is a very forgiving course. Beautiful landscaping, lakes and creeks, several waterfalls and massive trees border many of the lush Bermuda fairways. Holiday Hills provides an enjoyable round for all. This is a "must play" course while in Branson! Directions:From downtown Branson take Bus. 65 across Lake Taneycomo to the red light, turn left on Hwy. 76 E. and go approximately 3 miles. Resort and golf course on right.
Ledgestone
Golf Digest called Ledgestone "a masterpiece of mountain golf architecture." Spectacular scenery accentuates the hilly terrain and dense forests that border virtually all of the narrow Zoysia fairways. Water is in play on 10 holes. Bunkers surround the speedy bentgrass greens. Ledgestone becomes the favorite course of many of our visitors. You will remember every beautiful hole. Directions:Take Highway 76 West towards Silver Dollar City. At the intersection of Highway 76 and Highway 265 turn north (right) into StoneBridge Village.
Pointe Royale
A scenic resort located in the country music boom town of Branson. The rolling hills, narrow tree-lined bermuda fairways, water on 9 holes and bunkers on every hole make it a real challenge for all players. A number of country music stars live on the course. Pointe Royale also offers 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom condominiums on the course for nightly rentals and golf packages. Directions:Take Hwy. 65 south from Springfield, MO to Hwy. 76 west. Go west on Hwy. 76 to Hwy. 165, south 3 miles to course.
Thousand Hills Golf Course
Quite simply, Thousand Hills Golf Course is the most popular golf course in Branson Missouri. Our award winning, 18-hole Branson golf course features tree-lined fairways with water hazards coming into play on ten holes. The signature hole is #3, a 460-yard, par 4 requiring a long tee shot from an elevated tee, then an approach shot over a creek to an elevated green that is carved out of a cliff. Zoysia fairways, tees with Crenshaw Bentgrass greens and our convenient location genuinely separate Thousand Hills from other Branson Missouri golf courses. Directions:From Springfield take Hwy. 65 south to Hwy. 76 west to Wildwood Dr. then south on Wildwood two blocks to clubhouse (behind Grand Palace).
Top of the Rock
Top of the Rock is a 9 hole, Jack Nicklaus designed resort, par 3 golf course. Top of the Rock, a part of Big Cedar¨ Lodge, is one of only 11 courses in the nation to be recognized as an Audubon Signature Cooperative Sanctuary Program golf course. The course offers a challenge to every level of golfer, from beginner to the most avid player. Set high above Table Rock Lake, the course offers spectacular views in the midst of pristine golfing conditions. Come see why Jack wanted to be a part of Top of the Rock. Directions:From Branson, take Hwy. 65 south to Top of the Rock Rd., make a right. Golf course is straight ahead. Top of the Rock Rd. is before Hwy 86.
Chat on the Branson Landing shops
OkieAnonon: the newspapers web site they have a story that says around 72 percent of the retail space has been taken. I can't remember them all, but it was in today's 07 10 2004 edition www.bransondailynews.com, some I do remember; foot locker, sharper image, cold stone creamery, belk, bass pro victoria's secret
The Mat Maniac: OK...theses I got to comment on...:foot locker : This could be a good idea...but not downtown..downtown is the hometown atmosphere. But with all the walking to do around...still a good idea sharper image Who vacationing or living in Branson would have the funds to shop at this place...except for the stars..and most of them wouldnt be able to do too much til on Sunday..
cold stone creamery: Burn in Heck...This could put Mr. B's down...which would be a BAD thing
bass pro: ONLY thing I think would work. With all the fishing on TANEYCOMO..and those other lakes like Table Rock..:)
victoria's secret: Umm....1# question is......Why????
Tim aka The Mat Maniac SuselitI, too, was hoping for something more than your average Mall stores. Perhaps a Hard Rock Cafe. Because we are all going to shop at the Outlet Malls not Belk Department Store.
As of (Tuesday) we have right at 72 percent of the retail committed," Huffman said.
Businesses expected to be part of Branson Landing are Pretzel Twister, Victoria's Secret, Coldstone Creamery, Build A Bear Workshop, Trade Secrets, Sharper Image, Foot Locker and Starbuck's. Those are in addition to two "anchor" stores announced in March: Bass Pro Shops and Belk department store.
fourstevens: I can see the build a teddy bear workshop being successful...but...have to agree with the others...I would hit the outlet shops looking for bargins. And with Bass Pro being there would need another excuse to head for Springfield. Guess instead of being trendy..I wish they would have found some homespun one of a kind shops to put down there.
BeagleDad: Oh no! Not a Build A Bear!! We discovered those for the first time in California on vacation this year. We came back with 5 bears!! Ever try to get 5 Teddy Bears on an airplane. If they do open one, it may become financially impossible for us to ever come back to Branson!
P.S. My bear's name is Skipper and that is NOT a silly name!!
fourstevens: P.S. My bear's name is Skipper and that is NOT a silly name!! are the other bears named...Gilligan, Mary Ann, Ginger and the Professor?...lol..just joking with ya.
VBeason: My contact at American Bandstand still says they are in negotiation for a restaurant in Branson. Just don't know when or where. He has promised to let me know. It would be a good fit for the Landing project -- their food is reasonably priced and very good. Plus if you leave hungry - it is your own fault! We go to the one in Kansas City at last 1-2 times a month. I'm hooked on their Onion Strings appetizer. I can make a meal out of that.
fritzie: Am I the only one who do not like the landing project as it seems to develop? I wonder how many people this project will bring to town. There is nothing interesting about the tenants. I have visited them all except the ice cream place. It will just be another shopping center as so many other. It seems as the only stores/restaurants opening up in Branson lately here are "bland" franchises.
Instead of giving millions to such projects, they ought to give support to small business with unique ideas. Those are the ones that need the financial support.
Bransonfan: I can't say I am excited about any of the Landing shops. Bass Pro is great but that has always been a Springfield stop for us and will continue to be. I wish the shops on the Landing would be unique to the Ozark Heritage, after all I think that's what people come to Branson for. There is a Victoria's Secret and Foot Locker at just about all malls in all Metro areas there is a very nice Bass Pro just a few miles from my house in St. Charles, MO For heavy duty shopping there are the 3 outlet malls which fit my "checkbook" better than what the Landing is offering.
jakwi: At this point, I can't see anything that would bring me into that area.
The Mat Maniac: Oh no!
My bears name is Benji...he's a former MPW Hardcore Wrestling Champ...by pinning
me in an actual match...so your bears name is NOT silly at all :)
The Mat Maniac: Am I the only one who do not like the landing project as it seems to develop? I wonder how many people this project will bring to town. There is nothing interesting about the tenants. I have visited them all except the ice cream place. It will just be another shopping center as so many other. It seems as the only stores/restaurants opening up in Branson lately here are "bland" franchises. Instead of giving millions to such projects, they ought to give support to small business with unique ideas. Those are the ones that need the financial support. FINALLY...someone that is behind my comments I have been expressing for 2 years on this board... I cant Stand the ideas it is doing...
Look at what it has taken away so far: Sammy Lane Resort, Fishermans Roost, Main Street Marina, SAMMY LANE PIRATE CRUISE...and look at the businesses this could hurt too...: Branson Cafe, Mr. B's Ice Cream, Fudge Shop, Dicks 5 and 10, and all the good little shops in between (like the leather shop near Dicks that Shannon wants to go back to and get some more shirts and another fanny pack)...
I cant stand it...cause it shows still the disrespect to the history and down home feeling that downtown gives...Look at the Swimming Pool that was a part of Sammy Lane Resort - WAS in the historic register...GONE... The Resort itself....over 50 years old...and was one of the best and most favorite...GONE....Main Street Marina...affordable...family atmosphere..better than those fancy new marinas...and one of the few in downtown branson..for Lake Taneycomo...GONE... This is some outoftown schmoe...that probally never stayed in Branson....that thinks he knows whats good for the tourists...but doesnt... You notice...theres not many know contacts for the guy so one can send an email or whatnot..to express concern and such..or requests. We are the people that will be spending the money and wanting to go to Branson...cause it is so different than anywhere else...its the feeling..its the nature...its the family at home atmosphere. if we want the mall type stores everywhere...we would STAY HOME INSTEAD...Home doesnt have Dicks 5 and 10....Home Doesnt have Main Street Marina...HOME DOESNT HAVE THE SAMMY LANE PIRATE CRUISE...Home doesnt have the DUcks...Home Doesnt have the PResleys or Baldknobbers....Home doesnt have Hollywood Wax...Home Doesnt Have Hillybilly Themes....THERE IS NOT A PERSON that doesnt feel relaxed when in Branson on vacation...cause its so different...Heck...going out to eat is affordable...Me and Shannon for Breakfast and Dinner...were able to at times spend no more than 40$ total....We did THAT just for Dinner TODAY... I felt more happy last year to walk around the lake front...just hearing the quietness of the water and air...breath the fresh air...listen to the live ducks and geese (Dont think that this landing construction wont scare them away for a few years).... This is a place to feel like a kid again..to feel young again. I went out for a walk...FROM Best Western Rustic Oak (NOW called Branson Landing), down to the lake front..around and about...and back up. with those hills and such...and without a problem...I cant do that at home at all.. (thanks to wrestling..heh)... Now someone else ask again about if anyone doesnt like the Branson Landing idea...:) Im more than willing to speak my mind again
ggh: cold stone creamery will get me to the Landing - Mmmmm, love getting to pick and choose what mix in's I want in my ice cream! I'd like to see some Branson artisians open up shop at the Landing - I think they need to show off their talents - and where better to do it than downtown? I'd also like to see a museum of sorts downtown - showing the 'before' - I think it would add interest to the new Landing.
The Mat Mania: True...but do you think that the artisans will be able to get a fair deal on the Landing than in the other places downtown? I ONLY consider the landing past the railroad tracks...so you know the places I mean too... Not alot of people buy stuff...so a high rent would be suicide or death...A museum though...that might be a good idea too...BUT...Ill cause a riot...if "you know what" isnt a part of the landing..
Branson Mom: Guess instead of being trendy..I wish they would have found some homespun one of a kind shops to put down there. My understanding is that is the plan. I'll try to post the rest of the aricle later(that's the problem with the online version, there's more to the article than what they post online!)
Branson Landing tenants varied
By Cliff Sain BDN Staff Writer
Officials are expecting a wide variety of businesses to populate a downtown Branson retail development along Lake Taneycomo. Rick Huffman, CEO of HCW Development Company and developer of the 0 million Lake Taneycomo lakefront project known as Branson Landing, announced this week the names of eight companies that are coming to the development. Huffman said his company is working out the best mix of businesses possible for the retail portion of the project. The project will also feature a town square, a board walk, a water fountain display, a hotel and convention center.
"As of (Tuesday) we have right at 72 percent of the retail committed," Huffman said.
Currently, construction under way on the project is for water, sewer and other infrastructure improvements. Huffman said he expects approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers soon, which will allow the construction of buildings. "In three weeks (of approval), we can start hauling rock material to bring it to grade," Huffman said. "The utilities will be going in, in August. We will be pouring concrete in September."
Huffman said they have turned down several companies wanting to make Branson Landing their home, either because they were not financially strong enough or because they didn't not want to pay the high rent prices.
"We could be full now if we took the first offers, but we're trying to hold rents and stores to a quality that sets us apart," Huffman said. Huffman said not every store will be a national chain. "There are some local businesses that will be involved, " he said. He said Urban Retail, of Chicago, Branson Landing's retail management company, has requested 15 to 20 letters of intent from local companies. Huffman said Branson Landing should be completed by spring 2006. The convention center however, will be at least six months behind. The city is still purchasing land along Sycamore Street, next to Branson Landing, for the convention center and its hotel.
OkieAnon: Am I the only one who do not like the landing project as it seems to develop?
I wonder how many people this project will bring to town. There is nothing interesting about the tenants. I have visited them all except the ice cream place. It will just be another shopping center as so many other. It seems as the only stores/restaurants opening up in Branson lately here are "bland" franchises. Instead of giving millions to such projects, they ought to give support to small business with unique ideas. Those are the ones that need the financial support. In the beginning I was all for it, when it's completed it may be great, but right now i'd have to say from what i've read I tend to agree with fritzie... it just wows you with boredom at the moment. :(
the pictures they have drawn up are nice to look at, i'd probably go just to see the bass pro shop, but most of the stores hold little interest. check it out once ... then i'm not seeing a whole lot to draw us back. hopefully the convention center will still add something to it. what I don't get is this drive for the "new" when it comes to shopping areas. they have a lot of shopping areas now, and a lot of them have empty stores, why not put some of that tax money their spending on Branson Landing and Branson North onto some of the older places and malls and upgrade them?
fourstevens: Thanks Branson Mom....so just maybe with the mixed in Branson "flavor" stores down there...that will help draw in those that tend to back away from the malls.
However, it's the prices that will determine whether I buy from there...needs to be reasonable. Too bad Lamberts doesn't consider opening up a place down there.
Branson Mom: You're welcome! I agree with you about the prices. All we can do is wait and see what will happen. Wouldn't Lambert's be great there!
pamlet: I really can see both sides of this issue.. On the one hand - it is VERY sad that so many of the old places listed have closed. I know they hold lots of memories, and were very charming in their own way. On the other hand - I can see that an upscale development could bring a lot to Branson. If it is done correctly - then it can be very nice - even relaxing to go to... I worked in shopping malls for YEARS - and could never get over the fact that people everywhere LOVE going to the same stores in mall to mall.. That's not my personal favorite - but for some reason people like the familiar.. really that's what shows up in the outlet malls now! I hope it works out for Branson - the one thing from a retailers standpoint - I'd be nervous that the convention center will be 6 months later.. THAT's where the initial money will come from at the retail level I would think..
bransongranny: Thanks Branson Mom....so just maybe with the mixed in Branson "flavor" stores down there...that will help draw in those that tend to back away from the malls. However, it's the prices that will determine whether I buy from there...needs to be reasonable. Too bad Lamberts doesn't consider opening up a place down there.
It seems too this Ole granny if the rent is going for around .00 a square foot for Retail space I don't think you will find much of a bargin there. How can the prices be reasonable if the rent is so high? Branson is losing it's History one day at a time. The Hills and Hollows we all love so much seems to be bulldozed down. I thought we lived in the Ozarks? What name we they give it after all the land is pavement? And the Hills and hollows are all gone!!! Pity Pity
fritzie: I think the reason they do not metion any local business with "Ozark Flavor" is that there are none yet. I think the rent is too high, because they can not take profit from other stores and pour them into this relative high rent place until they run local business out ot business. No, I am not a local business owner but very concerned about small business.
ggh: I can understand the draw of several of these stores - but the Foot Locker? Am I missing something? Do folks go to conventions, and wonder around during their lunch break and buy SHOES? High dollar taffy, fudge, coffee, ice cream, Victoria Secret slinky's, I understand, but I don't get the shoes... a classy jewlery store would probably fit in too. - The Grand Palace shops would all make good 'landing' stores IMO - but then you'd have an empty Grand Village... I digress At least one of the Foot Locker stores in Springfield recently closed, and I was thinking it was a part of the now defunct Just for Feet??? Maybe not?
bransongranny: I can understand the draw of several of these stores - but the Foot Locker? Am I missing something? At least one of the Foot Locker stores in Springfield recently closed, and I was thinking it was a part of the now defunct Just for Feet??? Maybe not? From what this Ole granny is hearing around town is that Grand Village got bought out by the folks from The Branson Landing if this is true I guess the rent at The Grand Village will go up from .00 a square foot to ??? From what I'm hearing they will take over in January.
Jalva2: Isn't there a Cold Stone Creamery also moving into the new area by Dixie Stampede? Or am I confusing that in my mind with something else?
bransoncutie: My contact at American Bandstand still says they are in negotiation for a restaurant in Branson. Just don't know when or where. He has promised to let me know. It would be a good fit for the Landing project -- their food is reasonably priced and very good. Plus if you leave hungry - it is your own fault! You're right -- would be a good fit for the Landing. And oh, those Onion Strings -- I love 'em!! Gee...know where I need to eat next time I'm in KC!!!
bransoncutie Isn't there a Cold Stone Creamery also moving into the new area by Dixie Stampede? Or am I confusing that in my mind with something else? Yes, there is one going in there. No, you're not confused.
Branson Mom From what this Ole granny is hearing around town is that Grand Village got bought out by the folks from The Branson Landing if this is true I guess the rent at The Grand Village will go up from .00 a square foot to ??? From what I'm hearing they will take over in January. The Grand Village was purchased by the Grand Vista people, however since then Grand Vista was purchased by Westgate Resorts.
Suselit: Thanks for the facts, Branson Mom. You are a glorious beacon of light :)
bransoncutie: Thanks for the facts, Branson Mom. You are a glorious beacon of light :)
Yes she IS, isn't she?!
fritzie: The Grand Village was purchased by the Grand Vista people, however since then Grand Vista was purchased by Westgate Resorts. I will be very surprised if Westgate purchased Grand Village. Westgate is strictly a Timeshare company, and the shops will fit better in with Huffman's aparent interest in retailing.
Cheesecake: To NOT preserve the historic past of Branson,
these high end up scale venues, are going to only offer their wares to people
who have money, lots of money. It will be a great tourist viewing, but maybe
not buying, for the average income family, who stretches their bucks, just
to see SDC and a show, and stay in a motel with a pool. I have imagined, local
venues, celebrating the historic past of Branson being the core of the Landing.
I hoped to see small shops that represent other entities that Branson has to
offer, in a NUTSHELL...something that folks have come to Branson for for years......the
country, the rural feeling........the atmosphere. Shops that first off celebrate
local CHOCOLATE FUDGE....there are locals that produce BATH products, CHEESE
venues, a local WINES with a novelty shop featuring their products, maybe a
shop with some down home "ya'll come to the Ozarky" products, classy
souvenier shops.......quilts and baskets,....local products on consignment......and,
yes maybe a personalized Teddy Bear shop...and for sure a jewelry shop.....leaning
toward the high end, but affordable gifts....with a GLITZY section commerating
the MUSIC CAPTIOL, and a BAKERY, with the fresh bread smell that drags you
inside, and of course BASS PRO, and a LEATHER shop, with a man who makes the
sandals right on your feet, a Music shop that sells Musical Instruments and
EVERY BRANSON ENTERTAINER'S CDs, a GLASS shop where they blow your own design,
a BROOM shop where they can fashion my form of transportation before my very
eyes......and/or ONE OF A KIND items. And of course a MUSEUM......that gives
the story OF THE LANDING FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE PRESENT.......an ICE CREAM
shop is a must, with tall cold drinks, too, that a family can afford on a hot
day......FORGET the big department stores and the lingerie shops.........there
are the OUTLET MALLS across town......and this isnt a SDC scene....but, this
is a famous turn of the century spot, and the early half of the 20th century
was a busy time down at the resorts in the summer.......familys came here year
after year to spend the summer......there must be some nostalgia incorporated,
to bring back the returning generations, and to keep them returning.
How about a Magician on the street, strolling Minstrels, and those wonderful
Clowns that twist up the balloons to make dogs and cats...and a PIRATE, to
enchant the kids, .....and then Restaurants with tables and chairs under umbrellas
outside, to allow visitors to take in the HEAT and the BUGS.......but why do
people come to the Ozarks if not to enjoy the local culture.......we survive
the heat and eat bugs while we picnic.....isnt that why tourists come? To watch
us hill folk in our natural habitat, and listen to music of the generations?
I dont know.....I maybe totally wrong.........tourists maybe just come to shop
and find bargains........but that is possible up and down the interstates at
the outlet malls.......why trash up the Landing.........make it spectacular,
affordable.......and it will make money.....VOLUME, makes money. Amazing what
one can dream up on a hot summer morning......oooooooo one more thot, in the
corner of my brain...........an ANTIQUE shop, with real antiques on consignment
from the locals, not newly manufactured milk cans, etc.........but the real
thing. Those "something old is new again" items...........an egg
beater? butter press?........something that some hard working Ozark family
used way back when .......??? .....Im done.
Branson Mom: Thanks for the facts, Branson Mom. You are a glorious beacon of light :)
Lol!! You're welcome! Thank you for the compliment!
Branson Mom: Yes she IS, isn't she?!
Aren't you sweet! Thank you!
Jalva2: I'm in agreement with what seems to be the majority here. I'm a longtime Branson visitor and have so far seen nothing that would draw me down to the Landing. In fact, so far the Landing seems to be as sad as the slicing up of the view of the mountains from the Shepherd's homestead by additional roads (though I know they're needed). The prices will be better at the outlets, and if I want to walk around a mall area without buying anything I'll do it at Grand Village (which I love to browse). The things which are true to Ozark history or to the Branson I knew growing up are the things that draw me back year after year: SDC; Shepherd; caves; lakes; water slides; the Pirate Cruise; original shows like Baldknobbers, Presley's, and any other shows put on by family groups.
I don't mean to sound overly negative though, there's plenty of things in Branson that still attract me. SDC is still true to its roots for the most part; the Shepherd of the Hills lives on; family shows like the Presley's still thrive even with more glamorous stars in town; the lakes and caves are still beautiful; the drive from Branson to SDC is still magnificently crooked; and my kids seem to love Branson as much as I do. Landing or no Landing, Branson will still be a great family destination.
Branson Mom: I will be very surprised if Westgate purchased Grand Village. Westgate is strictly a Timeshare company, and the shops will fit better in with Huffman's aparent interest in retailing. Here's an article that was in the paper.
Developer says time share sale won’t affect Landing
By Cliff Sain BDN Staff Writer
The developers of a large Branson lakefront development have sold a local time share company, but officials say the sale will not affect the development.Rick Huffman is CEO of HCW Development Company, which is partnering with Branson on a 0 million public-private downtown development along Lake Taneycomo, known as Branson Landing. The project is expected to include a retail development and convention center. Huffman said he and his partners in HCW have sold Grandvista, a time share company the three started in 1995, to Westgate Resorts, of Orlando, Fla."This has no effect on Branson Landing," Huffman said.Huffman said he and his partners in HCW, Santo Catanese and Marc Williams, wanted to concentrate more on developments, such as apartment buildings and Branson Landing."Our company has never been designed as a long-term time share company," Huffman said....
For the complete story, pick up a copy of The Branson Daily News.
Jalva2: So, that article (having only read the section posted) seems to leave open the possibility that Grand Village could still be owned by HCW. Sounds like maybe only the timeshare portion went to Westgate?
bransongranny: The Grand Village was purchased by the Grand Vista people, however since then Grand Vista was purchased by Westgate Resorts. Here's an article that was in the paper.

But who you know in this town :) I hope I didn't step on your toes for ALL information about Branson. :) But this Ole granny would be the first to admit when I'm wrong :) But that article did not say that Huffman did not buy The Grand Village??   But I guess the Merchants at the Grand Village are all wrong.
